Carbon Signal

Using Software & Engineering to Chart a Path to a Decarbonized Built Future

We helped Carbon Signal with:

  • Brand Naming & Positioning

  • Brand & Logo Design

How It Started…

James, one of the founders of Carbon Signal reached out to VVITCH in need of a fully developed brand. He and his team had the skills to bring a brand to life on a website, but creating the actual brand was not in their wheelhouse. So they asked us to support them in not only creating a visual brand identity, but also naming their brand and doing some brand positioning/messaging work. Carbon Signal is an exciting company, on the cutting edge of the decarbonizing space and we were excited to get some experience in the industry.

Positioning Your Brand

Brand Positioning and Brand Messaging is one of the most frequently overlooked parts of a brand identity. They communicate your value and how your differentiate from the competition. Often we only think about the visual elements of a brand β€” the logo, the colors, the fonts β€” but clear and consistent messaging is just as important, especially when you consider all of the places a brand shows up in today’s digital world. If someone sees the same messaging points on your website, your social media, your email and the ads that you run, it’s more likely they’ll understand what you offer and how they could benefit from your products or services.

For Carbon Signal, we created 3 messaging pillars. Messaging pillars are the consistent points you make when communicating to your audience to ensure you stay true to your overall brand positioning and ethos. These pillars should be central to all of your promotions and communications.

Trustworthy

β€œSometimes the future feels unclear and you may not know where to go next. But we know that in order to ensure the future of our cities we must start taking steps to decarbonize our current infrastructure.

And that’s where Carbon Signal comes in, we’ll be your guide to those next right steps, steps that lead to a lasting impact.”

Ever-Evolving

β€œOur mission to decarbonize the future of our built environment is complex, it’s layered and forces us to think differently.

That’s why we’re always evaluating what’s working and what needs iterating. The challenge keeps us curious, focused and engaged to find solutions.”

Charting Paths Forward

β€œWhat we’ve been doing as a society so far won’t work long term, and we need to change course. Charting a new path forward to decarbonize our current infrastructure is a big undertaking, but we’re up for the challenge.

Much like signal fires light the way by sending communication and hope to distant communities, with CarbonSignal we want you to know that we’re all in this together.”

Developing a Brand & Logo Design

After carefully analyzing the competition, our designer sought out to create a brand that felt modern and techy, but also grounded in nature. The symbol within this logo is inspired by one of the data model displays that the Carbon Signal team shared with us at the outset of the project, which used circles of different sizes to differentiate the data points. However, instead of the circles being arranged in one line or in a grid, they extend out from a center point in a radial shape appearing as a beacon and giving a slight nod to the "signal" element of the brand.

The color palette portrays that Carbon Signal is trustworthy and contemporary. The range of colors will make for lots of variety in graphics, charts, and creative.

We wanted a tactile element to the brand, so our designer incorporated some β€œglass” textures that add interest and dimension to the photos she chose for Carbon Signal.
